RAF Regiment train with NATO partners in Exercise Global Eagle

Personnel from the RAF’s Combat Readiness Force (15 Squadron RAF Regiment) are participating in Exercise Global Eagle at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, USA.

Exercise Global Eagle is a two-week event that emphasises the defence of airbases. Its primary objective is to enhance the collaborative capabilities of partner nations in conflict scenarios.

15 Squadron RAF Regiment have joined the United States Air Force’s 820th Base Defense Squadron and the Norwegian Air Force Protection Battalion to exchange expertise and refine methods that enhance the collective defence capabilities of all participating units.

Throughout the exercise, personnel will engage in live-fire scenarios, simulated training activities, and operations that incorporate integrated air support and parachute airborne manoeuvres. This comprehensive approach is designed to ensure that various NATO Forces can operate cohesively and effectively respond to threats posed by peer adversaries.

The RAF’s Combat Readiness Force is the ground fighting force of the RAF. It fights to defend the RAF and enable Air Operations wherever required.

The Combat Readiness Force is responsible for Airfield Defence, Air Force Protection Command and Control, Tactical Air Control, Counter Uncrewed Aerial Systems (C-UAS), the conceptual and experimental development of Air Force Protection, and high-threat pre-deployment training for all members of the RAF.

15 Squadron RAF Regiment is part of 3 Force Protection Wing. This unit is proficient in providing a comprehensive range of Force Protection capabilities, which encompass Dismounted Close Combat, Ground Extraction, Close Quarter Battle, and operations in environments contaminated by Chemical, Biological, Radioactive, or Nuclear materials.

The Squadron consists of approximately 170 personnel, including tactical RAF Police, mechanics, chefs, clerks, and a paramedic. It is equipped with support weapons such as General Purpose Machine Guns (in the Sustained Fire role) and Anti-Tank weapons. The Squadron is also capable of supporting Joint Personnel Recovery and Ground Extraction Forces and frequently engages in training exercises both within the UK and internationally to support RAF Operations.
